NATIONAL YOUTH FOR THE CLIMATE EMERGENCY
IS A YOUTH ORGANIZATION WORKING TO CONNECT YOUNG ACTIVISTS TO A NETWORK OF LIKE-MINDED PEERS, MENTORS AND EXPERTS; PROVIDE A PLATFORM FOR LOCAL AND NATIONAL CLIMATE ACTIVISM;
AND FOSTER CONNECTIONS BETWEEN INDIVIDUALS, THEIR COMMUNITIES, AND THE ENVIRONMENT.
ABOUT US
We envision a culture that supports and sustains youth activism. After all, we’re going to be the ones to live with the aftermath of today’s adult population, so we deserve the right to fight for a brighter world, safe from the impacts of this generation. To do that, we need our fellow youth to step up to the plate and advocate for the change we all envision. But how? Building climate action projects from the ground up is a major undertaking, especially as a young activist in a system stacked against us. That’s where we come in. Founded in 2022 by three high school students, National Youth for the Climate Emergency (NYCE) is built by youth, for youth. Read more about our mission, vision, and process below.
MISSION
Our mission is to make climate action easier and more accessible for all age groups. We believe that age shouldn't determine one's ability to improve our climate, and our NYCE network is making that a reality. Whether you have an action idea you’d like to implement, or are simply looking for a way to get involved, NYCE can help connect you to a nationwide audience and peer support network. What makes us unique? We want you in the driver's seat. Unlike other organizations that may purely want the personpower, we want you to be in control of your ideas and involvement. If you’re looking to get involved in the movement, we’ll connect you to action projects in your area and help you make meaningful change in your community Come up with a climate action project? Let us know, and our dedicated staff and growing community will help you get it off the ground! We’ll provide the mentorship, expertise, and support network to help you and your project grow to success, but you stay in control! Think of us as your behind-the-scenes crew, and our nationwide platform your stage.
VISION
Like all climate organizations, we work towards a world where climate catastrophe is a distant memory, and world communities work in harmony with nature and between generations. But NYCE’s vision for the future goes beyond a world culture of sustainability and youth empowerment. We work for a world where youth are not only encouraged to pursue activism and take leadership in their communities, but have the opportunity to do so successfully. We believe that everyone, no matter their age, should have access to a network of support and the resources required to pursue activism and leadership in an effective, professional way. Climate change affects each and every one of us, and it’s our right and responsibility to stand up for and protect the places we call home. The ability to do so effectively should not be a privilege reserved for the (adult) employees of big organizations. Youth have voices too, and it’s time we have the platform to use them.
